SWAIN'S STORE BEGAN IN 1957
When logging truck operator and PA Salmon Club manager Cliff Swain and his wife, Bee, decided to start a retail business, they opened the 7,000-square-foot Cliff Swain Sales store in Port Angeles, Washington. The store featured military surplus, hardware, and fishing gear and operated under the slogan:
"Tents, trinkets, tools, tackle, and trousers."
69 YEARS OF GROWTH
Over the last 69 years, Swain's General Store has grown and evolved to meet the needs of its customers.
- Opened in 1957 with military surplus, hardware, and fishing gear
- Expanded twice in the mid-1960s, growing to 28,000 sq. ft.
- Added a 12,500 sq. ft. warehouse in 1979
- Acquired additional parking property in 1993
- Built a 6,000 sq. ft. storefront addition in 2000
- Built a 6,000 sq. ft. storefront addition in 2000
Today: 38,300 square feet of retail space across two floors.
